We dyed a dozen of our hens' eggs this weekend. I'm pretty sure it's the first time we've ever dyed brown eggs, but they came out brilliant.
They made for a tasty breakfast.

We are a young family in Southern Chester County, Pennsylvania starting out on our path towards greater self-sufficiency on our 4 acre suburban "homestead."
When we're not working to pay the mortgage we're gardening, baking, canning, brewing, foraging, and generally learning how to live more sustainably.
We may not always be successful, but we're having fun and enjoying the fruits (and vegetables) of our labor!

They did turn out wonderful we broke down and bought 2 dozen white eggs to dye. Next year we will try dyeing our brown eggs. Duck eggs were used for dinner and pickling.
Wow! Pickled duck eggs sound amazing! We've been talking about pickling our eggs...do you use just regular vinegar, or do you use beets too? Around here all the pickled eggs are pink because of the Pennsylvania Dutch influence.
